What are Miniature Goldendoodles?

A Miniature Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a miniature poodle (between 10-15 inches). Their average weight is 30 lbs with some being as small as 22 pounds or as large as 45 pounds. They have been bred since the 1990’s. The Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross, a first generation (F-1) and because of that they exhibit what is called “hybrid vigor”. Hybrid vigor is a phenomenon in referring to that fact that the pups produced from a first generation cross grow to be healthier than either of the parent lines. In other words, the best traits of both parents are passed down. The miniature Goldendoodles life expectancy is 15 to 17 years

About Wine Country Goldendoodles

We exclusively breed first-generation Mini-Goldendoodles (F1) - that is, a purebred AKC Golden Retriever mom and a petite 10 pound AKC Poodle dad. This unique approach guarantees non-related parentage, ensuring healthier and temperamentally consistent puppies.

The use of a smaller Poodle father results in a unique size range of Goldendoodles, averaging between 25-30 pounds, with some as small as 20 and others as large as 40 pounds.

This selective breeding method ensures superior quality. Plus, our puppies are well-tolerated by families with allergies, marking another level of consistency in our breeding program.

While other breeders opt for multi-generational breeding (F2, F3, F4, and F5) or backcrossing to the Poodle (F1B, F1BB), these methods often yield uncertain parentage and larger-sized puppies.

We firmly believe in preserving the quality of the Goldendoodle breed and refuse to engage in overbreeding practices that could jeopardize it.

“Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! I know we all feel blessed to have these sweet pups in our families!!! Archie is the best dog we have ever had & we thank you, Lynn & Jim for that!!”
